National Asbestos Awareness Week

The Twelfth Annual Resolution establishing the National Asbestos Awareness week was unanimously approved by the Senate. This was led by Senator Edward Markey (D-MA) and bipartisan co-sponsors.

Back in 2011, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) and cosponsors for introducing a resolution that declares the first week of April as “National Asbestos Awareness Week” and seeks to “raise public awareness about the prevalence of asbestos-related diseases and the dangers of asbestos exposure.” The other bill sponsors are as follows: Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL), Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), and Senator Jon Tester (D-MT).

Low Risks for Mesothelioma Diagnosis After Radiation Treatment

Researchers in Italy have analyzed the United States of America’s government SEER cancer database and have determined that individuals being diagnosed with mesothelioma are only slightly higher when they have had radiation treatment than those individuals that have not.

Mesothelioma specialists and scientists had determined that radiation exposure increased your chances of a mesothelioma diagnosis, but this new finding shows that the chances are minimal. An individuals exposure to asbestos through their occupation and environment is still the main cause for mesothelioma.

Until asbestos regulations were enacted during the 1970s and 80s, countless homes were constructed with asbestos building materials. So if your home was built before 1980, then chances are there is asbestos material located on or within the structure.
